
Vaughn, Carreiro Lead BC Past Quinnipiac, 4-2

NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team opened up the season with a 4-2 victory over non-conference foe Quinnipiac at the Newton Soccer Field on Friday night. BC will play at Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field (1 p.m.).
Redshirt junior Gaby Carreiro, who missed 2017 with an injury, opened the scoring in the 10th minute off a long ball from junior Jenna Bike to give BC an early 1-0 lead. Carreiro then set up junior forward Olivia Vaughn in the 20th minute for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
The Eagles gave up their early lead on two late first half goals by Quinnipiac.
BC took the lead back early in the second half as Vaughn struck again on a breakaway in the 51st minute off a long ball from Jillian Jennings. The Eagles pulled ahead by two goals when Jenna Bike was taken down in the box on a long run. BC was awarded a penalty kick which Carreiro scored on in the 77th minute of the match.
Graduate goalkeeper Alexis Bryant (Kensington, Md.) picked up the win with two saves.

GOAL: BC 1, QU 0 – 10 min.: Gaby Carreiro from 28-yards out off a through ball from Jenna Bike.
GOAL: BC 2, QU 0 – 20 min.: Olivia Vaughn scored her first goal off a long ball from Gaby Carreiro.
GOAL: QU 1, BC 2 - 40 min.: Quinnipiac midfielder Lauren Triglione found a loose ball in the box from six yards out.
GOAL: QU 2, BC 2 - 42 min.: Bobcate midfielder Madison Borowiec scored from 18 yards out over the outstretched hands of BC goalkeeper Alexis Bryant.
GOAL: BC 3, QU 2 - 51 min.: Olivia Vaughn breakaway off a long ball from Jillian Jennings.
GOAL: BC 4, QU 2 - 77 min.: PK was awarded after Jenna Bike was dropped in the box. Gaby Carreiro scored on the PK for a 4-2 lead.
COACH FOLEY'S COMMENT
"We started off very well but had a 10 minute stretch where we lost momentum and Quinnipiac capitalized on the opportunity,'' said Foley. "We came back strong in the second half to get back in control of the match and put it away.''
GAME NOTES
- Olivia Vaughn had two goals in the win. It was the third time in her career that Vaughn notched two goals. She now has 12 career goals.
- Freshman Kayla Duran earned her first career start along with graduate Rachel Newborough. Both played 90 minutes in the back.
-The Eagles are 3-0 against Quinnipiac all-time.
- BC has not lost a season opener since 2006 … The Eagles are unbeaten with a 9-0-2 record.
- Boston College held a 17-7 edge in shots. BC had seven corners to three for the Bobcats.
