Cortens, O'Reilly Named to CSCAA Scholar All-American Team
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Taylor Cortens and junior diver Cecilia O'Reilly was named to the 2018 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honorable mention team as announced today.
The award recognizes students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Both men's and women's swim and diving teams were named to the to the CSCAA Scholar All-America list for the 2018 spring semester last week. The women posted an incredible team-average GPA of 3.48.
Cortens, a native of Newport Beach, Calif., swam a 22.60 50-yard backstroke to lead off the 200-medley relay in the ACC Championships which helped the quartet shatter the program record. He also qualified for the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with a record time of 54.46, which broke the old record set in 2013.
He also broke the 100-yard backstroke record (48.99), in his leadoff swim in the 400-medley relay at the ACC Championships.
O'Reilly, a native of Hingham, placed third in 1M diving in a meet vs. MIT in January. Against BU the same weekend, O'Reilly placed first in the 1M diving competition. On Dec. 2 vs. Williams, O'Reilly placed first in the 1M diving with a score of 269.55. She also helped establish a women's 1M synchronized diving record (169.40) with her partner Gabriella Taghian.
