Fourth-seeded BC to host first and second-round games on Friday and Sunday.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Boston College lacrosse team earned a spot in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, announced Sunday night by the NCAA. The tournament bid marks the sixth-straight and seventh overall appearance in the 26-team bracket. Â
BC (19-1) received a first-round bye in the tournament and will play on Sunday, May 13 at 1 p.m. The Eagles will play the winner of the first-round game, which will feature Princeton (12-5) and Syracuse (9-9). Boston College will host that game on Friday, May 11 at 4 p.m.
If Boston College wins on Sunday, the Eagles will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m.
Boston College has never played Princeton, while the Eagles and Syracuse are old rivals. This past season, BC defeated Syracuse, 13-12, at home on April 19. Junior Sam Apuzzo scored two goals in the final three minutes to catapult the Eagles to victory. The Orange leads the overall series vs. BC, 15-4.
Last year, Boston College advanced to the final of the NCAA Tournament. It was the Eagles longest run in the NCAA Tournament in the program history, since joining the ACC.
This season, Boston College finished the regular season at 17-0 and 7-0 in the ACC. It marked BC's first perfect season. The Eagles went into the ACC Tournament as the top seed and opened up with a win over Louisville (19-6) in the first round. The following day, the Eagles defeated No. 23 Notre Dame (17-7) before losing to No. 2 UNC (14-11) in the ACC Championship in Durham, North Carolina.
The NCAA Tournament will take place over the next two weeks with the Final Four at Stony Brook University on May 25 & 27.
All games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
