Eagles place four on first team, two on second team
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A program-record six Boston College lacrosse players earned All-ACC honors this season, according to an announcement made by the league this afternoon.
Â
The regular-season champion Eagles placed four players on the All-ACC First Team, while two BC players earned All-ACC Second Team honors.
Â
Junior attack Sam Apuzzo repeated as a first-team selection, and she was joined by senior attack Kaileen Hart, junior midfielder Dempsey Arsenault and junior defender Elizabeth Miller – who was a second-team honoree in 2017 en route to All-America honors – on the first team.
Â
Junior defender Hannah Hyatt and junior goalie Lauren Daly both copped second-team honors. This year's honors marked Hart, Arsenault, Hyatt and Daly's first all-conference honors of their careers. Â
Â
BC shared the league lead in All-ACC honors with North Carolina with seven apiece, although BC drew the most first-team honors (4) among ACC programs this season.
Â
Apuzzo led all ACC players in points (34) and points per game (4.86) this season. Her 20 goals were tied for third most in the league, as were her 14 assists. She earned a league-leading four ACC Offensive Player of the Week awards this season, including each of the last two in the regular season. Apuzzo also finished the league season tied for ninth in ground balls per game (2.29), first in caused turnovers per game (1.71) and fourth in draw controls per game (5.71).
Â
Hart finished tied for third in the league in scoring with 28 points (4.00 per game), while her 20 goals tied for third most with Apuzzo. Her eight ACC assists were tied for ninth most in conference play and she put up 46 shots in seven ACC games, tied for second most. She earned an ACC Offensive Player of the Week nod in the season's opening week.
Â
One of the best two-way players in college lacrosse today, Arsenault finished the league season tied for ninth – with Apuzzo – in ground balls per game (2.29), third in caused turnovers per game (1.43) and fifth in draw controls per game (5.43). Offensively, she was tied for third with a 4.00 points per game mark in league play, while her 1.57 assists per game were tied for third and her 6.00 shots per game were tied for sixth. Arsenault earned one ACC Defensive Player of the Week Award this season.
Â
Miller continued her stellar defensive play for the Eagles, who allowed a league-low 71 goals in seven ACC games. Boston College also led the ACC in ground balls (145) and caused turnovers (72) as the Eagles played an aggressive defensive scheme. Miller earned one ACC Defensive Player of the Week Award this season.
Â
Hyatt earned her first-ever ACC honor after a standout season on defense. Like Miller, she started every ACC contest and was a consistent force in limiting opponents' quality scoring opportunities. BC held all seven conference opponents to 12 or fewer goals this season.
Â
Daly also earned her first-ever All-ACC nod after leading the league in wins (7) and ranking second in goals against average (9.21). She was also fifth in save percentage (.430) and saves per game (6.82).
Â
No. 2 ranked and top-seeded Boston College (17-0, 7-0 ACC) opens play in the 2018 ACC Championship tomorrow, Thursday, April 26, when the Eagles face eighth-seeded Louisville (6-10, 0-7 ACC) in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. at Duke's Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The game will be broadcast live on NESN locally and the Raycom Sports Network nationally.
