Frei Named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week

The redshirt junior has now earned ACC Honors twice in her career
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College redshirt junior softball player Allyson Frei has been named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week following her performance against Massachusetts and No. 13/9 Florida State last week, the conference announced Tuesday evening.

The Branchville, N.J. native led the Eagles to two wins over the past week, including one win over No. 13/9 Florida State on Friday, April 13. After shutting out UMass on Tuesday and holding the Minutemen to just three hits in seven innings, the right-hander returned to the circle for another strong performance on Friday.

Frei held the Seminoles to just two hits and recorded eight strikeouts in a complete game shutout performance that gave BC its first win against FSU since 2008. She allowed only two hits to a Seminoles team that entered the game batting .307, which was good for 32nd in the nation. She struck out eight batters, marking the fourth time this season that she has struck out eight or more batters in a single game. The right-hander was a critical factor in helping to hand FSU only its second conference loss of the year. She is the only ACC pitcher this season to shut out the Seminoles.
Frei also threw her eighth and ninth complete games of the season against UMass and FSU and now has thrown 34 complete games in her career. She is in eighth place in the BC record books in complete games. The right-hander also threw her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season and now has 13 in her career, putting her in third place in BC history.
This is the second time in Frei's career that she has received ACC Pitcher of the Week Honors. She was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on May 2, 2016. She is the first Eagle to receive player of the week honors more than once in her career since Tory Speer received the honor twice during the 2011 season.
The ACC award is the second for BC this season as freshman CC Cook was named ACC Player of the Week on March 27.
The Eagles (22-17, 9-5 ACC) travel to Amherst, Mass. on Wednesday, April 18 to play UMass (22-11, 11-0 A10) at 4 p.m.
