Eagles Fall, 5-0, to No. 13 Florida State

Annie Murphy finished two-for-two on the day
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College softball team fell to No. 13/9 Florida State, 5-0, in the third game of the series on Saturday afternoon. The last time the Eagles lost two games in a row was slightly less than a month ago when they dropped three games to Duke on March 16-18. BC is now 9-5 in the ACC while FSU improved to 13-2.

Florida State scored one run in the first two innings of the game on a fielder's choice play and wild pitch. Redshirt junior Allyson Frei held the Seminoles scoreless over the next three innings, but FSU extended its lead in the sixth. A walk by Jessie Warren followed by a single by Zoe Casas and a bunt single by Korina Rosario loaded the bases. One run scored on a sacrifice fly and two more runs scored on a single by Sabrina Stutsman, allowing the Seminoles to go up 5-0.

Florida State pitcher Kylee Hanson allowed just three hits on the day. Senior Annie Murphy led the team with two hits while junior Carly Severini picked up a single.
The Eagles return for mid-week action when they travel to Amherst, Mass. to take on Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 18.

- Frei threw six innings in the game, giving up six hits and five runs while striking out four. Senior Jessica Dreswick came in to pitch the seventh inning and did not allow a run.
- Today's game is the fourth time that BC has been shut out this season.
- Florida State out-hit BC, 8-3. The Eagles are 4-12 when out-hit by the opponent.
- With two hits in the game, Murphy extended her hitting streak to 11 games. She finished two-for-two on the day with two singles and one walk. Murphy now has 11 multi-hit games. She has reached base safely in 15 straight games. The senior is just two hits shy of 200 for her career.
- Severini finished one-for-three with a single.

How it Happened:
- Florida State jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Carsyn Gordon reached on a hit by pitch and then promptly stole second. Gordon advanced to third on a ground out by Sydney Sherrill. After Warren drew a walk, Casas hit a single to first base to plate Gordon and put FSU up 1-0.
- The Seminoles added to their lead in the following inning when Elizabeth Mason reached on a walk and stole second base. She advanced on a ground out to third by Morgan Klaevemann and scored on a wild pitch.
- The Eagles did not pick up a hit until the third inning when Murphy singled to right field.
- Warren drew a walk to lead off the sixth inning. Casas singled to second to put a runner on first and second for FSU with nobody out. Rosario reached on a bunt single to load the bases. A fly out by Mason to left field allowed Deja Bush, who came in to pinch run for Casas, to score. The bases were re-loaded when Anna Shelnutt reached on a hit by pitch. Stutsman came in to pinch hit for Klaevemann and singled through the right side to drive home two more runs, giving Florida State a 5-0 advantage.
BC will travel to Amherst, Mass. to take on Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 18.
