Scouting the Opponent:
- The Eagles participate in their fifth ACC series of the 2018 campaign when they host No. 13/9 Florida State at the new Harrington Athletics Village at Brighton Fields in Brighton, Mass.
- BC has a 2-35 all-time record vs. the Seminoles. FSU has won the last 28 meetings between the two teams. The Seminoles outscored the Maroon and Gold 37-12 in the last six match-ups between the teams.
- Historically, the Eagles are 0-13 at home against the Seminoles.
- The last time BC defeated FSU was in 2008 when the Eagles bested the Seminoles, 6-1. The only other win against Florida State in program history came in 2006 when BC won, 7-5.
- Heading into the weekend, Florida State is leading the ACC with a 11-1 record. Pittsburgh handed FSU its lone ACC loss of the year when it defeated them, 1-0, on April 6.
- Sydney Sherrill leads the Seminoles with a .419 batting average. Jessie Warren and Carsyn Gordon are also batting above .300 at .358 and .347, respectively.
- Kylee Hanson leads the pitching staff with a 20-3 record. She has posted a 0.78 ERA.Â
- Senior Jessica Dreswick continues her work-horse ways into the 2018 season. As of Apirl 12, she is third in the ACC in games started with 24. She is fifth in innings pitched (142.0), tied for seventh in appearances (29) and sixth in complete games with 11.
- The right-hander is also eighth in opponent batting average (.210).
- Dreswick is fifth in the ACC with 136 strikeouts and 46th in the nation. She is also seventh in the conference in strikeouts looking (31).
- With 10 K's recorded in the win over No. 18 Ole Miss and in the 4-1 vicotry over UConn, Dreswick has thrown double digits in strikeouts in four games so far this season.
- In the BC record books, Dreswick has the most games started of any pitcher in BC history with 98 starts.
- Entering the eighth week of the season, senior Chloe Sharabba leads the team with 29 runs and 41 hits, including 10 doubles and five home runs. She has also picked up 18 RBIs and drawn a team-leading 22 walks, resulting in a .464 on base percentage and a .591 slugging percentage.
- Sharabba started the 2018 season on a 16-game hitting streak, dating back to last season. The senior has collected a hit in 25 of the 36 games this season and has reached base safely in all but four games.
- Sharabba is 11th in the ACC with a .357 batting average. She is ninth in slugging percentage (.591) and fifth in on base percentage (.464).
- Redshirt junior Allyson Frei threw a total of 405 pitches over 24.1 innings pitched against FIU in the FIU Classic. As of April 4, she held a 1.74 ERA, which is good for fourth in the conference.
- For the first time in program history, the Boston College softball team has won 12 straight games, besting the previous record of 10 which was set in 1995. The winning streak begun against Virginia on March 23 and has extended until April 11 when the Eagles defeated UConn.
- During the streak, BC has run-ruled its opponent four times. The Eagles scored a season-high 16 runs in the victory over the Friars. In game two versus Syracuse, BC hit two home runs in one inning for the first time all season. The team has posted a .305 batting average during the streak and has scored 84 runs. The pitching staff has thrown a combined 1.59 ERA.
- As of April 12, the Boston College pitching staff is ranked 34th in the nation with a 2.09 ERA and second in the ACC behind top-ranked Florida State.
- Opponents are hitting .215 against Dreswick and Frei. Together, the right-handers have struck out 235 batters, which is fourth in the conference.
- Senior Annie Murphy is first in the conference and 42nd in the nation as one of the toughest batter to strike out with a value of 23.8
- The Maroon and Gold are tied for third in the conference in sacrifice bunts with 27.
- The Eagles have proven to be a difficult team to run against as they are tied for second in the ACC with nine caught stealings.
- During game one on Friday, the first 250 fans will receive a pink rally towel for BC softball's annual pink game.
- On Saturday, April 14, the Harrington Athletics Village at Brighton Fields will be dedicated in honor of University Trustee John L. Harrington.Â
- The dedication ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. and will feature an appearance by Harrington, the former CEO of the Boston Red Sox. University President William P. Leahy, SJ, Yawkey Foundations President James P. Healey '75, P'05 and Martin Jarmond, the William V. Campbell Director of Athletics at BC, also will give remarks.Â
- Following the dedication and first-pitch ceremonies, the BC softball team will take on Florida State at 2:30 p.m. while the baseball team hosts Wake Forest at 3 p.m. Both BC teams will also host Alumni Day as all former players are invited to attended pregame events and celebration.
