Dreswick Throws Two-Hit Complete Game in Win Over UConn

Freshman Emme Martinez had two doubles on the day
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Senior Jessica Dreswick held UConn to only two hits through seven innings and recorded 10 strikeouts as the Boston College softball team defeated the Huskies, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon to earn its 12 straight victory.

Both teams entered the third inning knotted at one. In the fourth inning, junior Carly Severini hit a one-out double to right and classmate Allyson Moore reached on a catcher's interference to put runners on first and second for BC with only one out. Senior Chloe Sharabba reached on an error by the UConn center fielder, allowing both runs to score. A double by freshman Emme Martinez in the fifth plated freshman CC Cook and gave BC a commanding 4-1 lead.

Dreswick threw a complete seven innings, allowing only two hits and three walks. She struck out 10 batters on the day.

The Eagles will return to action when they host No.13/9 Florida State at the Brighton Athletic Village on Friday – Sunday, April 13-15. The game on Friday is set to begin at 6 p.m.

- The Eagles have now won 12 straight games. The win streak breaks the program record of 10 straight wins that was set back in 1995. BC defeated St. Johns, Fairfield, Brown, Villanova and Seton Hall during that streak.

BC has also drawn 61 walks during the streak, posting a .436 team on base percentage. Dreswick and redshirt junior Allyson Frei have a combined 1.59 ERA during the streak and have allowed just 18 earned runs.
- Over the last 12 games, three batters have posted batting averages over .400. Cook is batting a team-leading .447, senior Annie Murphy is batting .415 and Sharabba has posted a .405 average. Â
- Dreswick threw her 11th complete game of the season and the 39th of her career. She is now tied for sixth place in the BC record books with Tekae Malandris 04' in career complete games. The right-hander has now struck out 10 batters or more four times this season. Her career-high in single-game strikeouts is 11.
- With a single in the sixth inning, Murphy extended her hitting streak to eight games.
- Martinez picked up two doubles on the day, increasing her season total to six. Out of her 17 hits this year, eight have been for extra bases. The freshman has four multi-hit games on the season.
- Cook now has two doubles on the season. With a single in the game, the rookie now has eight multiple hit games on the year.
- Today's game marked the only the fifth game this season that Sharabba did not reach base.

How it Happened:
- Cook reached base on a single to the pitcher in the first inning. Martinez rocketed a double to left center field and Cook scored all the way from first to give BC an early 1-0 lead.
- BC threatened in the following inning when Severini reached base on a walk and sophomore Olivia Markopoulos reached on a bunt single. With two outs, Sharabba was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Murphy flew out to left field though to end the inning.
- UConn posed its first threat of the game in the third inning when Briana Marcelino reached on a hit by pitch after a 13-pitch at-bat and Reese Guevarra walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Dreswick got Kiwi McDaniel to strike out looking and Olivia Sappington to fly out to right field to prevent the Huskies from scoring.
- BC added to its lead in the fourth inning when, with one out, Severini doubled to right field. Moore came in to pinch hit for Markopoulos and she reached base on a catcher's interference to put runners on first and second with one out. Sharabba reached base on a fielding error by the UConn centerfielder, allowing both runners to score and putting the Eagles up 3-1.
- Ryne Nakama doubled to left field in the fifth inning to lead off the inning. She advanced to third on a ground out. Marcelino hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Nakama, making the score 3-1.
- The Eagles added to their lead in the bottom of the inning when Cook led off with a double to left field and Martinez followed with another double to center field to plate Cook to increase BC's lead to 4-1.
