Senior Annie Murphy and junior Lexi DiEmmanuele each collected three hits
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Boston College softball team fell, 4-3, to No. 23 Mississippi State on Wednesday evening despite a three hits each by senior Annie Murphy and junior Lexi DiEmmanuele.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring four runs off of three hits. The Eagles responded in the second inning when freshman Cami Sellers reached base on a walk, DiEmmanuele hit an infield single and freshman CC Cook was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Junior Allyson Moore hit a single to drive home two runs for BC, making the score 4-2. The Eagles added another run in the fifth when DiEmmanuele hit a single to drive home senior Annie Murphy but the Bulldogs would hold on to win the game.

DiEmmanuele recorded three hits in the game and Moore collected a season-high two RBIs. Murphy also had three hits on the day to record her team-leading third three-hit game of the season.

BC returns to action when it participates in the 2018 Easton Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Friday - Sunday. The Eagles will start by playing Samford at 2:30 p.m. CT followed by a matchup with No. 13 Alabama at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, March 9.

- DiEmmanuele showed off her speed as she hustled out an infield single in the second and reached base safely on a bunt in the third. The junior picked up another hit in the fifth inning for her third of the day, making this the second time this season that DiEmmanuele has recorded a three-hit game.
- Moore collected two RBIs on the day, which is the most in a single game for her so far this season.
- Murphy picked up three singles in the contest for her fourth multi-hit game of the season. It marks the third game this season in which Murphy has recorded three hits.
- Redshirt junior Allyson Frei pitched two scoreless innings of relief without allowing any hits.
- Junior Carly Severini snapped a seven game hitting streak. She had reached base safely in the previous nine games.

How it Happened:
- Mississippi State got the scoring started early in the first inning when Kat Moore hit a single to right field followed by a walk by Mia Davidson to put runners on first and second with no out. A double steal advanced both runners to second and third. Sarai Niu reached base on an error, scoring Moore and advancing Davidson to third. Emily Heimberger hit a single to left field to score Davidson. A double to right center by Morgan Bell drove in two more runs, giving the Bulldogs an early 4-0 lead.
- BC responded in the second inning when a walk by Sellers, a hustled-out infield single by DiEmmanuele and a hit by pitch on Cook loaded the bases with nobody out. Moore blasted a single to first base to drive home two runs for the Eagles, making the score 4-2.
- The Eagles added another run in the fifth inning when Murphy led off the inning with a single to right field and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. A bloop single to right field by DiEmmanuele drove home Murphy as BC pulled within one run.
- Murphy reached base on an error in the seventh inning to put the tying run on base with one out, but the Eagles were unable to score.
