Kent to Redshirt '18; Aims for Full '19 Campaign

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College lacrosse head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein and two-sport star Kenzie Kent have announced that Kent will redshirt the 2018 lacrosse season with the intention of playing a full 2019 season next year.

In each of her first three years at Boston College, Kent played a full season with the BC women's hockey team before joining the lacrosse team in mid- to late-March for the rest of the season.

This year, Kent will take a break this spring and intends to return to the lacrosse field in 2019 to play a complete season with Walker-Weinstein's Eagles.

"I've been so lucky to have these opportunities at Boston College and being part of two amazing teams," Kent said. "Last years' experience with the lacrosse team – and being able to play in a larger part of the season than I had in the past – got me seriously thinking about playing a full season. Now, with hockey wrapping up, I've made the decision to take this spring off so I can focus on the rest of my senior year and return and play a full season of lacrosse next year.

"These girls are having an amazing season and doing some very special things, and I'm so excited to watch what these girls do the rest of the way. It'll be tough not being out on the field with them since I'm used to jumping right in, but I can't wait to cheer them on," Kent said.

"Kenzie is such a special player and is in such a unique situation," Walker-Weinstein said. "As a coach, knowing you'll have someone with Kenzie's abilities ready to play a full season next year, it's awesome and I'm so excited. She's already had an incredible career at BC and we're looking forward to watching her wrap up her amazing lacrosse career next year."

On the lacrosse field, Kent is ranked sixth in program history in career assists with 58 in just 30 career games. Overall, she has 137 points in that span and is already ranked in the Eagles' top 20 in career points. Last year, Kent won the 27th Mary Garber Award as the 2016-17 ACC Female Athlete of the Year and was a Honda Award nominee in lacrosse. In just 12 games, she collected 77 points as she helped lead the Eagles to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship game where she earned NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors after shattering the tournament's scoring record, posting 37 points in five games and besting the previous record of 26 points.

Kent is a two-time IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team and a IWLCA All-Rookie Team honoree despite playing abbreviated lacrosse seasons each of her first three years.

On the ice, Kent finished her hockey career tied for eighth on the BC career points chart, posting 138 points, while setting the program's record for career games played (157). She also finished her career ranked fourth in career assists (98) and tied for 10th in shorthanded goals (3). She captained the team as a senior and in her career, played in three Frozen Fours while helping Katie Crowley's Eagles win four straight Hockey East regular-season titles, three Beanpot crowns and two Hockey East Tournament championships.

The No. 2 Boston College lacrosse team returns to the field tomorrow, Saturday, March 31, when the Eagles face No. 7 Virginia at noon at the Cavaliers' Klockner Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which is available on WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.
