CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College rowing team kicked off the spring racing season with a doubleheader in Philadelphia on Saturday and the Cooper Sprints in New Jersey on Sunday.
Â
The Eagles lined up with St. Joseph on Saturday morning and won all events: varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and the third varsity eight.
Â
BC returned the Schuylkill River to race Temple on Saturday afternoon. The third varsity eight and varsity four continued their success from the morning with respective wins.
Â
The Eagles headed to the Cooper River on Sunday to take on seven competitors: Navy, Bucknell, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Drexel, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
Â
In the morning heats, the third varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity eight advanced to the Grand Final, while the varsity eight advanced to the Petite Final.
Â
The varsity four recorded the best finish for BC, finishing in second place behind Drexel. The third varsity eight finished third out of six boats behind ACC-rival North Carolina and Navy. The second varsity eight finished in fifth behind Navy, Rhode Island, North Carolina and Bucknell. The varsity eight finished sixth overall, winning the Petite Final.
Â
"For the past couple of weeks, the weather has made our on-the-water preparation challenging, so it was great to have a weekend packed full of races that the team could take a lot of strokes and focus on improvement from one race to the next," head coach Steve Fiske said. "With more experience and hard work as a team, I'm confident we can continue to make progress over the next few weeks."
