Eagles Drop Road Match to No. 1 North Carolina
March 02, 2018 | Women's Tennis
Senior Asiya Dair beat ranked opponent in the No. 1 spot
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Boston College women's tennis team fell in their third ACC matchup Friday evening to No. 1 ranked North Carolina, 5-2.
"Proud of our team effort today," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "Asiya defeated the #8 ranked player in the country and Elene fought back from 0-3 down in the third set. Everybody competed well. UNC is a great team and we hopefully can gain some confidence from today. But we can not be satisfied with almost. As a team we need to believe we can win these matches."
The Tar Heels (13-1, 2-0) quickly took the doubles point after their two ranked doubles pairings walked away with quick wins.
Three ranked singles from North Carolina then clinched the win, but senior Asiya Dair came out with a win on the day, winning the No. 1 position against No. 8 ranked Alle Sanford of North Carolina.
Sophomore Elene Tsokilauri notched the second Eagles' point from the No. 6 spot, winning in three sets after dropping the first.
Up next the Eagles will stick around the state to challenge NC State March 4 at noon.
