HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC scored twice in its first at bat of the game. Palomaki drew a four-pitch walk and sophomore Dante Baldelli followed with a double to right. Martellini and Braren scored both runners with consecutive groundouts.
- The Eagles added a run in the second and chased starter RHP Johnny Piedmonte from the game. With two outs, they loaded the bases on a fielder's choice, walk and infield single by Palomaki. Right-hander Mathieu Gauthier came into the game and got Baldelli to chop one to shortstop Will Wilson, who flipped it to second. Palomaki was called out, but head coach Mike Gambino appealed under the new video replay rules and the ruling was overturned, allowing the run in to count.
- Shane Shepard got the Wolfpack within one in the second on a one out, two-run home run.
- The Eagles added a run in the third as Braren led off with a double to the corner in left and scored on a two-out triple by Galland.
- NC State tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Three straight singles made it 4-3 and Brock Deatherage bunted his way onto first. Junior starter LHP Dan Metzdorf's throw went wide, allowing the tying run to come home from third. Metzdorf settled in and got three quick outs to keep it a 4-4 game.
- The Pack took the lead the following inning. A double down the line and single to center plated the go-ahead run. Redshirt freshman LHP Joey Walsh came into the game and gave up two hits to make it 6-4. Dillon Cooper hit a two-out single clear the bases and give the Pack an 8-4 lead. Walsh ended the inning with his second K.
- The Eagles scored two in the sixth to make it a two-run game. With one down, sophomore Brian Dempsey reached on a fielding error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Palomaki doubled down the third-base line to score a BC run. Baldelli singled to right and moved up on the throw to put Eagles on second and third. With RHP Nolan Clenney on the hill, Martellini hit a sac fly to deep center to bring home Palomaki. BC loaded the bases on two walks but Clenney got a strikeout looking to get out of the jam.
- State scored two in the seventh to take a 10-6 advantage. Walsh gave up back-to-back singles before getting the first out swinging. Junior RHP Sean Hughes allowed a single to load the bases before getting the second out looking. He walked the next batter and hit one to bring in two runs before ending the frame with a fly ball.
