Eagles Take Third at the New England Championships

BC won three gold medals at the meet
BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's track and field team competed in its fifth meet of the indoor season and first championship meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3 at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center in Boston, Mass. The women finished in third place out of 21 teams after two days of competition.

The women were in third place with 22 points behind Dartmouth and Northeastern after the first day of competition. Following the second day, the women finished with 53 points.

Top finishes from the past two days include a first place finish by the distance medley relay team. The 4x400 relay team and 4x800 relay team also finished in the top three in their respective events. Senior Julia Gregory won the 1000 meter run to move into the top-10 all-time in the BC record books and junior Molly McCabe won the gold in the 800 meter run.

BC returns to action Friday, Feb. 9 when it competes at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center at BU.

BC Highlights:
- Senior captain Johanna Celli earned a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.47.
- Senior Julia Barron finished in third place overall in the 500 meter dash with her second best-ever time of 1:14.93. Barron also ran a personal best time of 9.11 in the 60 meter hurdles to move to fifth best all-time in the BC record books.
- McCabe won the 800 meter run, crossing the line in a season-best 2:09.96. Senior Shannon Ahern was close behind with the bronze medal at 2:12.65, which is a personal best time. Both women qualified for the ECAC Championships.
- Gregory won the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:51.35 to become the New England champion in that event and move into the top 10 in the BC record books. Freshmen Emily Criscuolo and Katherine DeLoreto also earned top 10 finishes as the women crossed in sixth and seventh place respectively, at 2:55.84 and 2:58.67.
- Freshman Miranda Thompson finished in third place overall in the one mile run with a time of 4:53.47, which is a personal best and qualifies her for the ECAC Championships. Senior Laura Leff also finished in the top 10 at 4:58.65.
- Freshman Lauren White finished in eighth place in the 3000 meter run, crossing the line in 10:07.11.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of Julia Barron, Celli, freshman Monica Heil and McCabe earned second place overall with a time of 3:49.27, which is a season-best for the relay team.
- The 4x800 meter relay team of Ahern, junior Gianna Bender, senior Julia Gregory and DeLoreto finished in third place in the event, crossing the line in 9:09.55.
- The distance medley relay team of junior Paige Duca, McCabe, Thompson and freshman Kylee Raftis won the gold in the event with a time of 11:43.45.
- In the field events, junior Elizabeth Knoll finished in eighth place in the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters to tie her personal best.
- Sophomore Julia Lyons took eighth place in the long jump with a jump of 5.70 meters, which is a personal best indoor jump.
- Freshman Jessica Creedon earned a bronze medal in the pentathlon with 3517 points. Senior Anna Atkinson was close behind with a fifth place finish, earning 3378 points on the day. The scores are PR's for both women and break into the top-10 all-time in the BC record books.
