No. 9 Boston College Falls at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack Warriors scored a power-play goal in the second period and then held off a late shooting surge by the No. 9/9 Boston College women's hockey team for the 1-0 win on Saturday at Lawler Rink.
Making the first start of her career, Kelly Pickreign made 14 saves in the first period, including five while the Eagles were killing a penalty. On the other end, Samantha Ridgewell had 11 stops and the game was scoreless after one. Merrimack finally broke the deadlock with 5:21 remaining in the middle frame, going up 1-0 on a Paige Sorensen power-play goal.
BC poured it on early in the final frame - and went on to put 26 shots on goal in the third period alone - but couldn't crack Ridgewell. The Eagles had three power play chances in the third period but were unable to convert.
Pickreign finished with 29 saves for BC while Ridgewell made 51 stops in her shutout bid. The Eagles finished 0-for-7 on the power play and Merrimack was 1-for-3.

- 2nd, 14:49 | 0-1, MC GOAL: As a Merrimack power play wound down, Sorensen centered a pass to Chloe Cook before dropping to the right dot for a one-timer into the top right corner of the net off the return pass from Cook.
- BC is now 13-1-0 all-time against Merrimack with an 5-1-0 mark at Lawler Rink.
- This marked the first game this season that the Eagles were shutout.
- Kelly Pickreign made her first career start and appearance in the game … the freshman finished with 29 saves.
- BC had 100 shot attempts, including 48 in the final 20 minutes.
- Daryl Watts and Caitrin Lonergan each finished with a game-high 10 shots on goal … 13 total Eagles registered at least one shot on goal.
