Wahlstrom Named to U.S. World Junior Preliminary Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BC freshman forward Oliver Wahlstrom is one of 29 players who have been selected to the preliminary roster for the 2019 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the IIHF World Junior Championship in British Columbia from Dec. 26-Jan. 5.
Wahlstrom, the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, has three goals and an assist in 12 games thus far in his rookie campaign and ranks second on the team with 39 shots on goal. He collected his first career assist last Friday night in his Battle of Comm Ave debut at Boston University.
Wahlstrom spent last season with the U.S. Under-18 National Team, finishing with 48 goals and 46 assists for 94 points in 62 games. He had seven goals and two assists in seven contests at the 2018 Under-18 World Championships as Team USA won silver. Wahlstrom also helped the U.S. win the 2018 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament and won gold at the 2017 Under-18 World Championships after scoring four goals in seven games.
The forward is one of seven selections to the preliminary roster from Hockey East.
Team USA will convene in Everett, Wash. for training camp from Dec. 15-17 at Angel of the Winds Arena and will train in Kamloops, B.C. from Dec. 18-20. USA Hockey expects to name its final 23-player roster for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship by Dec. 23.
The U.S. enters the tournament having medaled in three straight World Junior Championships for the first time in U.S. history after earning gold in 2017 and bronze in 2018 and 2016.
