December 31, 2018 | Men's Hockey
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sixth-ranked Notre Dame skated past Boston College 4-0 on New Year's Eve at the Compton Family Ice Arena to begin the second half of the season. Cale Morris stopped all 20 shots he faced for the shutout in the Irish net.
Notre Dame (12-5-1) scored twice in the span of 34 seconds midway through the first period before adding an insurance goal and empty-netter in the third.
The Eagles dropped to 6-7-1 (6-1-2 HEA) and saw their second four-game unbeaten streak of the season come to an end. Boston College hit the post or crossbar four times on the night, including twice in the third period from Marc McLaughlin and Graham McPhee.
Luke McInnis led the team with four shots on goal and was denied by Morris point-blank at the right post in the second period. Morris also rescued a puck off the goal line with his glove during the middle frame.
JD Dudek rang the crossbar in the first period while the game was scoreless, and Casey Fitzgerald found iron with a one-timer from the high slot in the second.
BC suffered just its second loss in the last 10 games (6-2-2).
