Olivia Vaughn scores lone goal for BC.
NEWTON, Mass. - The No. 22 Boston College women's soccer team fell to Hofstra, 4-1, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at the Newton Soccer Field.
BC (14-5-1) came on attack as the Eagles had three shots in the first three minutes of play. The Eagles best chance came when junior Jenna Bike ripped a left-footed shot from 18-yards out that the Hofstra keeper Jenna Borreson dove the pushed out of bounds in the eighth minute of play.
The game change dramatically when Bike ran onto a long ball and collided with the Borresen outside the box in the 18th minute. Bike left the game immediately, while the Berrensen stayed in the game but had to be pulled minutes later.
Hofstra took advantage of the Eagles their speedy forward and scored six minutes later behind a goal by Lucy Porter off a cross from Jenn Buoncore.
BC had a 13-3 edge in total shots but was down, 1-0, at the half.
The second half, the BC made an adjustment with Bike out of the game and moved freshman Kayla Duran up front on offense.
The offense continued to pressure the Pride. After a shot by Duran in the 55th minute, Olivia Vaughn had a great chance to tie the game when she chipped the goalkeeper Ashley Wilson. The shot it the crossbar and was cleared by a Hofstra defender.
Even with the pressure it would be the Pride offense to find the back of the net. Hofstra scored two goals in two minutes to go up, 3-0, with 16 minutes left in the match. Sabrina Bryan scored both goals as she now has 13 goals on the season.
The Eagles junior Olivia Vaughn cut in the lead when she one-timed a cross from redshirt junior Gaby Carreiro in the 76th minute of the match. It was Vaughn's 10th goal of the season.
Any thought of a BC comeback was stopped immediately when Lucy Shepherd one-timed a ball from Jordan Littleboy in the back of the goal with eight minutes left in the match.
Boston College had a 28-6 edge in shots, as well as a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. BC had eight shots on goal, while Hofstra had four shots and four goals.
