Eagles Ready to Race at NCAA Regional

BC to take on 37 regional opponents in Buffalo
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's cross country team is set to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 9.

The 6K race will be in Buffalo for the second year in a row, as the 2017 event also took place on the Audubon Golf Course. Last season, BC raced to 14th place with 413 points, led by then-junior Paige Duca with a 42nd-place finish. Senior Delia Hayes and sophomore Lauren White also raced for the Eagles at the 2017 NCAA Regional, finishing in 70th and 176th overall, respectively.

Providence took last year's team title with 84 points, followed by Dartmouth with 115 points. New Hampshire senior Elinor Purrier won the women's individual title with a time of 21:20.8.

The Eagles last raced at the ACC Cross Country Championship at Franklin Park, placing 10th with 291 points. Hayes led BC across the line in a time of 21:24.8 (36th place) while freshman Fian Sullivan Sweeney (21:46.2) and Duca (21:48.9) placed 53rd and 56th overall, respectively. Three Eagles – Hayes, White and freshman Nicole Clermont (22:36.3) – ran their fastest times of the season at the ACC Championship.

Teams and athletes seeking to advance to the NCAA Championship in Madison, Wis. on Saturday, Nov. 19. The top two teams in each of the nine regionals earn an automatic bid, while the final 13 team spots are at-large selections. Among runners not selected as a member of a qualifying team, the top four runners in each region will qualify as individuals (runners must have finished in the top-25 overall in their region). Two additional athletes will earn at-large selections from the remainder of the national pool.
