November 07, 2018 | Softball
Schedule features 18 home contests and games against six NCAA tournament teams
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Head coach Ashley Obrest has announced the Boston College softball team's 2019 schedule, which features some of the top programs in the nation and an 18-game home slate for the Eagles.
Â
Six teams the Eagles face this season went to the 2018 Women's College World Series, the most notable being ACC foe and 2018 National Champion Florida State. Notre Dame, Boston University, James Madison, Boise State and Texas also made it to their respective NCAA Regionals in 2018 and are on the docket for BC in 2019.
Â
"I think I can speak on behalf of everyone in our program as to which match up we are most looking forward to – Florida State," Obrest said. "Any time you get to compete against a top-25 program, let alone the defending national champions, you have to circle that on your schedule."
Â
The Eagles will spend the first 25 games of the season on the road, starting the year at the Texas Classic, facing the Longhorns, Boise State and Northwestern State Feb. 8-10 before traveling to Atlanta, Ga. for the ACC/B1G Challenge from Feb. 15-17, taking on Michigan State and Illinois.
Â
BC will take on James Madison, Seton Hall and East Carolina at the Pirate Classic, Feb. 22-24 before facing St. John's, Penn State, Central Michigan, Georgia Southern and Tennesee at Chattanooga at the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Fla. from March 1-3. The Eagles will then match up with Penn, Central Florida and Florida International at the USF Spring Tournament, March 5-7. The Eagles will open ACC action March 15-17 at North Carolina.
Â
"When you look at our schedule, you quickly realize that early in the season we are on the road quite a bit," Obrest said. "I would say March 20 is another date we have circled on our calendar because it's our home opener. We feel that we now have the best facility in the Northeast in Harrington Athletics Village."
Â
The Eagles host Providence in their home opener on March 20, the start of an eight-game homestand that includes games against Syracuse (March 22-24), Massachusetts (March 27) and NC State (March 29-31).
Â
"Aside from March 20, there are 17 additional games that are circled on our calendar, all home games," Obrest said. "There's a special feeling when we step foot on our field and we are excited to show our fans our brand of softball."
Â
After traveling to Boston University (April 3) and Notre Dame (April 5-7), the Eagles will host Fairfield (April 10) and Louisville (April 12-14) before traveling to UMass (April 17) and Florida State (April 19-21).
Â
The Eagles will wind down the season with six home games against Holy Cross (April 23), Central Connecticut (April 24), Virginia Tech (April 26-18) and UMass Lowell (April 30) before finishing the regular season on the road at Pittsburgh, May 3-5.
Â
The ACC Tournament, held in Tallahassee, Fla., will run from May 8-11 while NCAA Regionals will take place May 17-19 on campus sites. The full 2019 schedule can be viewed here.
