The Nation's Most Dynamic Guard is also on the watchlist for the Naismith Trophy and Bob Cousy Award
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Ky Bowman was selected as one of 50 players nationally to earn a spot on the 2018-19 preseason watchlist for the John R. Wooden Award, it was announced today.
Bowman - the Nation's Most Dynamic Guard - has earned a spot on the national watch lists of three of college basketball's most prestigious honors: the John R. Wooden Award, the Citizen Naismith Player of the Year Trophy; and the Bob Cousy Award. He is the first Boston College player since Olivier Hanlan in 2014 to be named to the preseason watch lists for all three awards.
The junior guard was named to the 2018-19 Preseason All-ACC First Team and received seven votes for preseason ACC Player of the Year. Bowman was the only player in the country to average at least 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists during the 2017-18 season.Â
The Havelock, N.C. native was the only player in the ACC to rank among the top 11 in the league in scoring, rebounding, and assists. He earned honorable mention All-ACC and second team All-ACC Tournament honors as a sophomore.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is bestowed upon the nation's best basketball player at an NCAA Division I university who has proven to his or her university that he or she meets or exceeds the qualifications of the John R. Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden and the Wooden Award Steering Committee, including making progress towards graduation and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
Bowman and his Boston College teammates tipoff the 2018-19 season tonight at home, as they host Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at Conte Forum.
