Eagles Net Four Unanswered to Win 278th Battle of Comm Ave
November 30, 2018 | Men's Hockey
BOSTON – Logan Hutsko scored the first two of four unanswered goals in a 4-1 Boston College victory over Boston University in the 278th Battle of Comm Ave on Friday night at Agganis Arena. Joseph Woll made a season-high 38 saves for the Eagles, including several sprawling efforts in the third period to secure the win.
Christopher Brown provided an insurance goal five minutes into the third period, and rookie Marc McLaughlin scored his first career goal on an empty-netter in the closing minutes.
Hutsko netted both of his tallies in the second period and extended his career-high point streak to seven games, while David Cotton pushed his point streak to six games. Julius Mattila collected a pair of assists, giving the junior nine points in his last seven contests.
BC (4-6-1) played almost the entire game without freshman Jack McBain, who was handed a five-minute major and game misconduct 1:19 into the first period.
The Eagles moved to 4-1-1 in their last six games, 4-1-1 in Hockey East play, and 4-1-1 in their last six trips to Agganis Arena. BC is now 13-4-2 all-time at Agganis since it opened in 2005.
The Terriers dropped to 4-7-1 (4-4-1 HEA) heading into Saturday's backend of the series in Chestnut Hill.
SCORING
1st 7:23, BU Goal (0-1) | Just 19 seconds into a Terrier power play, Shane Bowers took a pass at the right doorstep and fed defenseman Chad Krys at the back door for a quick wrister which opened the scoring
11:36 2nd, BC Goal (1-1) | Off a clean faceoff win by Mattila, Hutsko ripped a shot through traffic from the high slot that squirted under Jake Oettinger's armpit to knot the score
17:10 2nd, BC Goal (2-1) | Mattila won another draw at neutral ice and Cotton spun across the blue line, feeding Hutsko in the right circle as the junior delayed and fired a wrister high glove side on Oettinger
5:02 3rd, BC Goal (3-1) | Oliver Wahlstrom located a loose puck below the goal line and whipped a pass in front for Brown, who one-timed a shot through Oettinger's five-hole to double the lead
17:59 3rd, BC Goal (4-1) | With Oettinger pulled, Michael Kim rimmed the puck out of the BC zone up the left-wing boards, and McLaughlin won a foot race at the BU netfront to tip in his first collegiate goal
