
Obrest, BC Softball Add Six in Signing Class

Eagles’ class of 2023 signs National Letters of Intent.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College head softball coach Ashley Obrest announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent in the early signing period on Wednesday. The Eagles' class of 2023 covers a coast-to-coast national footprint.

"I'm so excited to welcome these six young ladies to our program," said Obrest. "This group is motivated, competitive and passionate about the game of softball. Our program prides itself on work ethic and these six will fit in perfectly. Their drive and determination is top notch and as a whole, they are eager to help take our program to new heights!"

Catcher Maddy Carpe signed out of Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Va. A member of the National Honor Society, she has started all three years of high school softball beginning with her freshman season spent at St. Thomas Aquinas in 2016. Carpe became a team captain as a junior and went on to earn All-Conference Loudoun County Player of the Year and All-Potomac District Player of the Year. She has also garnered various all-conference and all-region honors since her freshman year.

Abigail Knight, a utility player from Robbinsville, N.C., plays at Robbinsville High School. She pulled in All-State honors as a freshman and sophomore as well as the Smoky Mountain Conference Player of the Year in 2017. Knight is a three-time All-SMC and All-Western North Carolina honoree.

A native of Franklin Lakes, N.J., first baseman Sarah Stocker has hit .451 through three seasons at Indian Hills High School. She has totaled 100 RBI in 93 games with 44 doubles and 11 home runs. Stocker, a National Honor Society member, is a three-time All-Freedom Division first team pick. She earned All-Region/East first team honors in 2017 and second team honors in 2018. Stocker was also recognized as the No. 2 sophomore in New Jersey by the Star-Ledger in 2017 and has collected various all-county honors.

Shortstop Gianna Sarlo, from Little Ferry, N.J., will captain Bergen Tech for a third season in 2019. She has earned all-league first team all three seasons and all-county the past two years. Sarlo, who is in the National Honor Society, was the Bergen County Player of the Year in 2018 and All-State second team Group 4 in 2018 as she hit .580 with 43 runs and six homers.

Djhane Valido, a shortstop out of La Mirada High School in La Mirada, Calif., has earned three silver slugger and one gold glove awards in her high school career. She was twice named all-league first team, while picking up league MVP honors as a junior. Valido was also voted to the D3 All-CIF first team in 2018.

Pitcher Haley White, from San Diego, Calif., will join BC from Torrey Pines High School. She was named the league Pitcher of the Year as a freshman and as a junior. White earned all-conference first team in 2018 and second team in 2016. She struck out 136 batters in 99 innings as a junior, while also being recognized as a San Diego All-Academic Team selection.

Boston College is slated to open its 2019 season at the Texas Class, hosted by the University of Texas, against Boise State on Feb. 8. The Eagles' ACC opener will be at North Carolina on March 15 and their home opener will take place at the Harrington Athletics Village against Syracuse on March 22.
