Eagles drop their first game of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's basketball team lost its first game of the season on Wednesday night, falling to IUPUI, 76-69, in the second of four games in the Fort Myers Tipoff.
The Jaguars outscored Boston College 40-27 in the second half to move to 2-1 on the season while BC dropped to 2-1.
IUPUI held a 19-4 advantage in fast break points and won the battle on the boards, 40-28. Camron Justice led IUPUI with 29 points, including a perfect 13-of-13 from the foul line.
The Eagles and Jaguars were knotted 2-2 at the first media timeout but Ky Bowman knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer to push it out to 7-2. Jordan Chatman put in one of his first half three pointers to stretch BC's lead to a half high of 14 at 8:08.
With 45 seconds to play in the first half, Chatman converted on two free throws to cap off his 15-point first half and then Nik Popovic's emphatic dunk at the buzzer gave BC a 42-36 lead at the break.
IUPUI twice cut the deficit to two by the second media time out, with Jack Hansen's layup making it a two-point game with 11:39 to play. Ninety seconds later, Grant Weatherford's free throw gave IUPUI its first lead of the night at 56-55.
Justice hit a three-pointer for IUPUI with 1:40 to play to put the Jaguars up by six. Wynston Tabbs' converted a free throw with a minute to play but Nick Rogers hit a three-pointer and IUPUI closed out with a free throw to hold off the Eagles' for a 76-69 win.
Chatman finished with 20 points and two rebounds. Bowman had 14 points for the Eagles to go with nine rebounds and one assist while Tabbs had 15 points, five rebounds and one assist.
GAME NOTES:
·      Jordan Chatman's four three-pointers were a season-high … they marked the most in a game for the senior guard since he went 4-for-7 on March 7, 2018 against NC State in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
·      BC is now 2-2 versus Horizon League opponents and 5-6 all-time against teams that are Horizon League members.
·      The Eagles are now 6-3 all-time in games played on the November 14 calendar date.
STAT OF THE GAME: 17 - Jordan Chatman led all BC players with an efficiency rating of 17 (PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK - Missed Shots - TO).
ÂUP NEXT: Boston College will now travel to Fort Myers, Fla. to continue with the Fort Myers Tipoff Classic. The Eagles will play Wyoming on Monday, Nov. 19 at 9 p.m. (FS1) before taking on either Loyola Chicago or Richmond on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
