Coffey, Vaughn Score In 2-0 Win over NC State

Eagles improve to 13-1-0 & 5-1-0 in the ACC.
NEWTON, Mass. -
The Boston College women's soccer team improved to 13-1-0 and 5-1-0 in the ACC with a 2-0 victory over No. 23 NC State on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field. Boston College has sole possession of second place in the ACC behind league leader UNC (11-2-1, 6-0-0).
Boston College will travel to Florida to play Miami on Saturday night at 7. Fans can watch the game on the ACC Network Extra. The final three matches for BC are at UNC (Oct. 18), at Duke (Oct. 21) and home against Pittsburgh on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Sam Coffey scored her ACC leading ninth goal of the season. It was her fourth game-winning goal of the season.
- Junior Olivia Vaughn tallied the second goal of the game on a great individual effort. A native of Montclair, New Jersey now has a new single season high eight goals.
- Graduate senior Alexis Bryant picked up her eighth shutout of the season. She made three saves, including a penalty kick save in the second half.
- The Eagles defense held NC State to just one shot in the first half and just three on goal in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coffey opened the scoring in the 34th minute on a right-footed shot to the far post off a beautifully placed ball from junior Jenna Bike.
- Boston College had two shots, one on goal by Carly Leipzig, in the first four minutes of action.
- BC had a 6-1 edge in shots prior to Coffey's goal.
- With a 1-0 lead, Olivia Vaughn gave BC a 2-0 lead on an exciting goal in the 37th minute. Vaughn's eighth goal of the season was set up when Riley Lockheed stepped up and won a 50-50 ball and it deflected into space. Vaughn picked it up and took on two NC State players, turning them twice before she pulled the ball to her left side and sent the ball by the Wolfpack keeper.
- The second half both teams had a penalty kick chance and both goalkeepers stepped up to make the save. Bryant finished with three saves, while the Wolfpack keeper Sydney Wooten had six saves.
