Syracuse On Tap for Eagles in Saturday's Home Opener

BC seeking the first win of the season.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 6/6 Boston College women's hockey team will debut at home on Saturday when it hosts Syracuse for a 2 p.m. non-conference game. The game will be streamed on ESPN3, which is available on WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.

Boston College (0-2-0, 0-0-0 HEA) opened up the 2018-19 season last weekend with a two-game set at then No. 9/9 Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs took both games of the series with 4-2 and 2-1 wins over the Eagles. In the series, six players made their debut in BC uniforms. Freshman Savannah Norcross scored her first career goal while classmate Kelly Browne earned an assist on the power-play tally. Erin Connolly finished the weekend with two points on one goal and one assist to lead the Eagles.

Syracuse (0-0-0, 0-0-0 CHA) took on the University of Montreal last weekend in an exhibition game, falling 6-3. The team, which returns three of its top five scorers from a season ago, was picked to finish third overall in the CHA Preseason Coaches' Poll. In 2017-18, the Orange finished 13-21-2 overall and 11-8-1 in conference play.

Overall, BC is 15-6-1 in the home opener and 9-1-1 under head coach Katie Crowley. This is the third time ever that the Eagles and Orange will meet in BC's home opener.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE
- The Eagles traveled to then No. 9 Minnesota Duluth last weekend to open up the season with a two-game, non-conference series.
- The Bulldogs took both meetings, winning 4-2 on Friday night and holding on for a 2-1 win on Saturday.
- Six players made their debut in a BC uniform on Friday, with rookies Olivia Finocchiaro, Savannah Norcross, Jillian Fey, Kelly Browne and Maddy McArthur and transfer Lindsay Agnew suiting up.
- McArthur's 31 saves in the 4-2 loss marked the most by a BC goaltender in a season opener since Corinne Boyles made 30 - also against Minnesota Duluth - in the 2011-12 season opener.
- Daryl Watts' shorthanded goal in the first period on Friday marked the second consecutive year that the Eagles' first goal of the season was a shorthanded tally.
- In last year's season opener - also against UMD - Makenna Newkirk potted a shorthanded goal in the first period of a 4-3 win.

ABOUT SYRACUSE
- This marks the first game of the 2018-19 season for the Orange. Last weekend, Syracuse took on the University of Montreal in an exhibition game, falling 6-3.Â
- The team will be looking to senior Maddi Welch and junior Ady Cohen to fill the void of the graduated Abbey Miller, whose career 2.02 goals against average and 11 career shutouts are program bests.
- Three of the top five scorers from last year return with Lindsay Eastwood (4-19-23), Brooke Avery (14-8-22) and Savannah Rennie (8-10-18).
- The Orange were picked to finish third overall in the CHA Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing 13-21-2 overall and 11-8-1 in the conference a season ago.
- This is the 11th season of play for Syracuse, with all seasons coming under head coach Paul Flanagan.Â
THE SERIES vs. SYRACUSE
- The Eagles and Orange have squared off seven times prior to Saturday's tilt, with BC holding an edge of 5-1-1 in the all-time series and a mark of 2-0-1 at home.
- BC's 4-3 comeback win last year at Syracuse marked the program's 400th overall win.
- Seniors Makenna Newkirk and Grace Bizal have both registered at least one point in each of their three career games against the Orange.Â
- BC has scored at least four goals in each of the last four meetings with Syracuse.Â
- There has never been a shutout in the series.Â
