BC to race on home course on Oct. 26
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's cross country team will race on its home course for the third time this season on Friday morning, competing at the ACC Cross Country Championship at 11 a.m. on Oct. 26 at Franklin Park.
The Eagles raced at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown in Sept. 21, placing 20th among a field that included five ranked opponents, then ran the Franklin Park course again on Oct. 6 at the New England (NEICAAA) Championship, placing 10th.
"We are very excited to run on our home course at Franklin Park," BC head coach Matt Kerr said. "The group of six athletes we are racing (seniors Sean Burke, Zachary Beston and Ian Ritchie, junior Sean Sullivan, sophomore Kyle Faddis and freshman Alexander Horgan) have worked hard to get to this point in the season and are ready to put it all on the line Friday."
Boston College has some experience in this group, as four of the six Eagles ran at the ACC Championship last season in Louisville, Ky., helping the team to 14th. Burke led the group, racing to a 17th-place finish overall in 23:59.6, earning All-ACC honors for the second season in a row. Ritchie, Sullivan and Faddis also raced in the championship last season.
"Our strength will come in the second half and we will look to move up as a team in the hills of the wilderness and Bear Cage," Kerr said. "It'll be a competitive day with the strength and the depth of the ACC, but we are putting our best men on the line and are ready for the challenge."
Two ACC teams, No. 10 Syracuse and No. 15 Notre Dame, are ranked in the USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll while NC State recently dropped out of the top-30 but is receiving votes. Last season Syracuse won both the team and individual titles at last year's championship.
The men's championship begins at 11 a.m. at Franklin Park and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. The award ceremony will take place at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the conclusion of the men's race.
