ACC Action Continues for Eagles

BC welcomes NC State and UNC to Power Gym
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team concludes a four-match homestand this weekend, welcoming NC State and North Carolina to Power Gym on Oct. 19 and 21.
NC State is 9-9 overall this season and has a 3-5 record in conference action, sitting ninth in the ACC. The Wolfpack took a 3-1 match against Virginia last weekend before dropping a four-set contest to No. 6 Pittsburgh. The Tar Heels, who have one of the toughest schedules in the NCAA this season, are 1-7 in the ACC after dropping a pair of matches to the Panthers and Cavaliers and sit 5-12 overall in 2018.
"Traditionally, obviously two very good programs," BC head coach Jason Kennedy said of the upcoming opponents. "I know NC State was in the tournament last year, they're going to bring a big right-side attacker I believe, and we're going to have to learn how to defend that. North Carolina is big and physical, their record right now in the ACC isn't probably what they're used to. But they're looking, just like we are, for something to get off the schneid here and turn things around."
The Eagles are 12-8 overall and 2-6 in ACC play, falling to Florida State, 3-1, last Friday before facing Miami in a three-set loss on Sunday.
After winning the opening two matches of ACC play, BC has dropped the last six contests in conference action by an average of only nine total points per match. North Carolina is also coming into the weekend on a losing streak, dropping its last five matches, and Kennedy recognizes the importance of winning Sunday's contest.
"On Sunday, really it's going to be two teams battling to see who can come out on top," he said. "Two teams that are struggling record-wise, but I think are both playing pretty well. They're both just looking for some leadership and looking for an identity to be able to get over the hump."
BC welcomes NC State for the annual Dig Pink match at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, then faces North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Sunday, which is also Club Day. Both matches will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
