Allen named one of 20 quarterfinalists for national award
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Boston College senior defensive end Zach Allen has been named one of 20 quarterfinalists for the 2018 Lott IMPACT Trophy, according to an announcement by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation. The 15th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy honors the top defensive player in college football who makes the biggest impact for his team, both on and off the field.
Â
Allen has been one of the most dominant players in the country in 2018. The Connecticut native is tied for 10th nationally with 11.0 tackles-for-loss. In seven games, Allen has totaled 36 tackles to go along with the 11 TFLs and 4.5 sacks.
Â
Allen was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the second time in his career on October 15. Allen was all over the field as he totaled seven tackles, three tackles-for-loss and a sack in BC's win over Louisville. Allen also blocked an extra point on special teams in the victory. BC allowed a season-low 217 yards of total offense and held the Cardinals to 47 rushing yards on 32 attempts, the fewest amount of rushing yards by an opponent in 2018.
Â
Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ronnie Lott, The Lott IMPACT Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Â
Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation and a distinguished group of former college football head coaches. To date, the Foundation has donated more than $1.5 million to various charities throughout the country. The four finalists will attend the 15th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy Banquet December 9 in Newport Beach (with his school receiving $25,000 for its general scholarship fund).
