BC, Miami Play to a 1-1 2OT Draw

Sam Coffey scores BC's lone goal in a 1-1 draw
The No. 8/7 Boston College women's soccer team held an early lead on a goal by Sam Coffey, but Miami scored late in the second half as the two teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Florida on Saturday night.
Boston College is now 13-1-1 and 5-1-1 in the ACC, while Miami improved to 5-7-3 and 2-4-1 in the conference. Boston College will next play at No. 3/3 North Carolina on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Eagles will play No. 11 Duke the following Sunday at 1 p.m. (ESPNU), before returning home for the final regular season match against Pittsburgh on Oct. 25 (7 p.m.).

- Sophomore Sam Coffey scored her ACC leading 10th goal of the season. The Eagles midfielder scored on a first half penalty kick in the 33rd minute.
- Graduate senior Alexis Bryant had five saves in the match. She is now 13-1-1.
- Boston College held an 18-6 edge in shots. The Eagles also had 11 corner kicks, while they held Miami to just one.
- The Eagles had four shots in overtime, while Miami had one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first goal came when Sam Coffey sent Jenna Bike into the box to the left of the Miami goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce (eight saves). Bike was tripped in the box and BC was awarded a penalty kick in the 33rd minute of the match.
- Coffey stepped up and ripped the shot by a diving Tullis-Joyce for a 1-0 BC lead.
- At the half, BC had four shots, two on goal, while Miami had three shots on goal.
- The Hurricanes tied the match in the 70th minute on a goal by Mallory Olson. The freshman ran onto a long ball and sent the shot to the far post to tie the match.
- With 15 minutes to play in the match, Coffey had a great chance to the right of the Miami keeper. Jillian Jennings connected with Coffey just outside the box. Coffey ripped a left-footed shot that was bobbled by Tullis-Joyce. She smothered the rebound before a BC player could react.
- Two minutes later, Olivia Vaughn sent a ball in the box. Off a deflection, Bike one-timed it to Coffey who was making a run into the box. Tullis-Joyce came up big again off Coffey's one-timer to keep the game tied, 1-1.
- The Eagles had four corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of the match but could not capitalize on the opportunities.
- In overtime, BC had four shots and held Miami to just one.
