Football Writers Association of America the latest outlet to recognize Dillon
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced its 17th annual Freshman All-America team on Monday and Boston College true freshman running back AJ Dillon was named to the team. It marked the third Freshman All-America honor for Dillon after ESPN.com and 247Sports both named him to their respective Freshman All-America teams in December.
Â
Dillon is the first Boston College player named to the FWAA Freshman All-America team since true freshman linebacker Luke Kuechly in 2009. Dillon is just the fourth Eagle to be named to the FWAA Freshman All-America team.
Â
Dillon became the first player in school history to be named ACC Rookie of the Year following his record-setting 2017 season.
A native of New London, Connecticut, Dillon rushed for 1,589 yards, the second-highest total by any freshman in ACC history. Dillon ranked second among all freshmen nationally in 2017 in rushing and 12th among all players. He established a new BC record for freshman rushing yards and finished with the fourth highest total in BC single-season history in 2017 with the 1,589 rushing yards.
He was just the second freshman in ACC history with two 200-yard games. Dillon led BC with 14 rushing touchdowns.
Â
Dillon had been at his best as the Eagles have rolled off five wins in their final six games of the regular season. During the last six regular season games, Dillon rushed for 1,099 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 183.2 yards per game over the last half of the regular season.
Â
Dillon is one of nine returning starters on offense for Boston College in 2018 as the Eagles return 16 starters overall.
