CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College junior defensive end Zach Allen and senior punter Mike Knoll were named to the 68-member 2017 All-ACC Academic Football Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Â
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football Team every year since 1954. The team was chosen from a pool of 144 ACC Football student-athletes who were nominated by their schools.
Â
Allen was named to the All-ACC Academic Football Team for the second time in his career after a sensational 2017 campaign. The Connecticut native started 13 games at defensive end and was one of two defensive linemen with 100+ tackles nationally.
Â
An All-ACC honorable mention selection, Allen ranked second on the team with 100 tackles. He led BC with six sacks and tied for 10th in BC single-season history with 15.5 tackles-for-loss. Allen was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the first time in his career after career-best 14 tackles and three tackles for loss against No. 16 Virginia Tech (10/7/17).
Â
Knoll earned All-ACC Academic Football Team accolades for the first time after a productive senior season. An ESPN.com midseason All-America selection at punter, Knoll averaged 40.0 yards per punt and pinned 34 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Â
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
