BC Finishes in Third Place at Beantown Challenge

Eleven Eagles qualified for the New England Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Boston College women's track and field team finished in third place overall out of eight teams with 75 points at the Beantown Challenge at Harvard University on Saturday, Jan. 13. Eleven Eagles qualified for the New England Championships in their individual events.

Top finishes by the women include a first place finish in the one mile run by junior Paige Duca who won the event with a time of 4.53.83. In the 500 meter run, senior Molly McCabe earned a second place finish with a time of 1:15.92. The 4x880 yard relay team won the race with a time of 9:11.07. In the field, sophomore Julia Lyons finished in second place in the long jump. On the day, the Eagles had 18 top 10 finishes.

The Eagles finished behind Northeastern and Harvard. BC will compete again at the Boston University Multi-Team Meet on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m.

BC Highlights:
- Â Eight Eagles competed in the one mile run. Duca had the fastest time of the day for BC and the fastest time at the meet, crossing the line in 4:53.83 for first place overall as the only student-athlete to break five minutes. Duca's time also qualifies her for the New England Championships.
- Freshman Kylee Raftis earned fourth place in the one mile run with a time of 5:08.38. Senior Ashbrook Gwinn crossed the line in seventh place overall at 5:12.17. Freshmen Colleen Sliney and junior Jessica Martin finished in the top 20 with 15th and 18th place finishes, respectively.
- Senior Anna Atkinson finished in eighth place overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.29.
- Senior Julia Gregory earned sixth place overall in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:57.52. She was followed close behind by junior Gianna Bender who crossed the line in seventh place at 2:57.84. Freshman Katherine DeLoreto finished in the top 10 with a ninth place finish at 3:01.50. Freshman Emily Criscuolo had a time of 3:01.67 for 11th place overall. All four girls qualified for the New England Championships.
- McCabe earned a second place finish in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:15.92. Seniors Julia Barron and Shannon Ahern finished in sixth and seventh place at 1:17.50 and 1:17.50, respectively. All three girls qualified for the New England Championships in the 500.
- Freshman Jillian Skerry finished in second place overall in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:06.54. Senior Laura Leff earned a fifth place finish, crossing the line in 10:11.26. Both student-athletes qualified for the New England Championships. Junior Sarah Marvin also had a top 10 finish, crossing the line in seventh place with a time of 10:26.74.
- Sophomore Monica Heil was the first BC runner to cross the line in the 200 meter dash with a 12th place finish and time of 26.10.
- The BC 4x880 yard relay team of Gregory, Duca, Ahern and McCabe finished in first place overall with a time of 9:11.07.
- Lyons finished second place overall in the long jump with a jump of 5.59 meters, qualifying her for the New England Championships.
- Junior Yasmin Ali finished in 10th place in the triple jump, clearing 10.51 meters.
- Freshman Jessica Creedon took fifth place in the high jump with a jump of 1.60 meters. Junior Elizabeth Knoll was close behind with a sixth place finish, also clearing 1.60 meters.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Jan. 18 when they compete at the Boston University Multi-Team Meet in Boston at 5 p.m.
