Balido Led Match in Kills Against Temple

Volleyball fell to Temple, 3-0, despite three close sets.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore Cat Balido's match-high 13 kills set the pace for the Eagles, who fell to Temple, 3-0, in Philadelphia Friday evening. Despite Boston College volleyball finding the lead in each of the three sets, Temple managed the win.
Balido also added a service ace the Eagles' six total aces. Lynn Braakhuis registered three aces as well as matching Jill Strockis for team-high nine digs.
The Owls' Izzy Rapacz totaled 11 kills for a .611 hitting percentage. Irem Asci held Temple up defensively, slating match-high 10 digs, along with 10 kills herself. Asci achieved the only double-double of the night.
Up next, the Eagles will wrap up the Cherry & White Challenge tomorrow morning, facing Delaware at 11 a.m.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Braakhuis recorded three services aces, while Balido, Strockis and Calvete registered one apiece, giving BC six aces to Temple's one.

- Sophomore Jane DeJarld led in hitting percentage (.333) off of two kills. Sophomore Sophie West followed with .286 from seven kills.
- Balido led the match with 13 kills, at least two more than the next highest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Eagles opened scoring for the set, but neither team could find a run. A kill from Goss hoisted the Eagles to a tight lead, which they held until the score hit 21-all. Temple found the points to take the set, 25-22.
SET 2
A big block from BC led it to its first set point. The Owls took a fast lead, but BC jumped into action after a run following a timeout and began to creep into the lead. Temple fought back to win the set, 25-20.
SET 3
Temple commenced the set on a 4-0 run, but BC took the lead for the first time at 10-9 thanks to a Calvete kill. The Eagles and the Owls traded points after this, but Temple came out victorious, 25-23, and took the match.
