BC returns home to face Central Michigan Saturday at 1 p.m.
What have you seen from Shane Morris?
He's a talented guy. Their offense looks really good to me. He can make the throws and I think that he has really good ability. I think that they have a darn good offensive football team.
Â
Â
Is he a dual threat or more of a pocket passer?
He's a thrower, but he has the capability to run the football for sure.
Â
Do you have a clearer picture of the injury outlook?
I won't know until Thursday. It's Tuesday right now. We're still weeding through everybody and everything. Thursday, I will know definitively where we are at. I'm not in charge of that, it's up to the doctors.
Â
If you were to go without Aaron Monteiro, who is the next guy to step up at left tackle?
We would probably play either Sam Schmal at tackle, Marcell at right tackle, and John at guard. The other option is to go John and Sam at guards, put Chris at tackle and put Marcell at left tackle.
Â
You wouldn't consider putting Alec Lindstrom in at center?
I'd rather not do that right now. That would probably be the next move, but we're not ready to commit to that just yet. Even though we love Alec, I don't think that's the immediate move. That could happen and it could happen quickly.
Â
How have Isaiah McDuffie and Davon Jones responded to getting more playing time?
Davon is working at will; Isaiah is working at sam. Obviously, this is the first day Davon has been at will so I'm going to take a look at that. Isaiah has been steadily improving right along, he's a really talented guy. I would suspect that well see him and Davon getting more and more snaps. We're paper thin and we've got to try to develop the depth there. And of course, with that always comes a few issues as you start to get to these guys who really haven't played a lot of football. There's no substitute for game experience. Sometimes what happens is they might not be in the right gap, so we have to re-develop that depth a little bit. But as thin as we are at O-Line, we might be even more thin at linebacker right now.
Â
Is Anthony looking better and healthy from where he was on Saturday?
He's in the process right now. He practiced today and we'll have to keep evaluating.
Â
Was that precautionary mostly taking him out?
A little bit of both. We got to give him a chance to feel better and we'll see. I'll know on Thursday but I just don't know right now.
Â
Can you talk a little bit about his development?
He's a young guy and he's showed a lot of poise. He's still in development. But he's done a lot of good things. He'll just get better and better. The sky's the limit there. But like any first-year quarterback, a lot of firsts that happen, he knows it. But managing big time game atmosphere, environment, crowd, noise, stadium, everything, that was a first for him and he handled that pretty well. At Notre Dame, that was kind of a first for him and he handled that pretty well and the Wake Forest game was a first given the fact that he had to learn how to handle the adversity of someone playing center that had never played before, a whole new feel of how the ball is coming back at him. People don't understand how unsettling that was to a young guy. And that showed in that game, not just in the snap being good, but also the confidence factor. The apex of our offense, the center, the quarterback and a lot of times the tailback right now, are guys that haven't played before. You can all see the promise and future in all of them but there are a lot of firsts that are happening and that will probably continue.
Â
Have you gotten four consistent games out of Ty Schwab?
Ty has played very well this year. He's got a lot on his plate right now. He's trying to run that whole thing in there. I think he's done a really good job trying to be a leader, trying to make all the calls, trying to get everybody lined up right. It's not easy because you have guys in there that haven't played so he has to make sure that everybody is where they are supposed to be based on all of the formations and sets. I think he's done a really good job of that this year, especially on Saturday.
Â
Has he taken over what John Johnson gave you last year?
I would say that's probably accurate. John was more back-end oriented. Ty is more of the apex of the defense, so he has to make sure that everything is connected. That's really, really important. And we need him to stay healthy right now.
Â
What have you seen out of Kevin Bletzer so far particularly on Saturday?
He's playing really well. I thought he took a big step on Saturday. I thought he played his best game and that will get better as time goes because he has now played a fair amount. He has multiple games where he has had to shoulder the load, so to speak, and I thought that he improved from Notre Dame to Clemson. Hopefully we keep seeing that growth and development there. He's doing a good job for us. He has to learn now how to handle the special team load that he always had. Sometimes these guys have to learn how to be a starter and a special teams guy. Ty handles the whole load, Will Harris handles the load, Kam Moore can handle the load. That's the next piece of this for him.
Â
Speaking of special teams, Michael Walker looked good on Saturday.
I think that on kickoff return and on punt return, there's a really high confidence level. We're playing at a high level on those units right now against really good competition. Probably as good as there is in the country right now. So, you can evaluate it properly that way. I would say that we're close.Â
