UNH Hands Eagles First Loss of Season
September 01, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Teams meet for the first time since 1989
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 22 Boston College men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season on Friday afternoon when New Hampshire claimed a 2-0 win at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
New Hampshire (3-0) took advantage of a BC own goal in the 30th minute when a UNH cross from the right hit off a BC defender's shoulder in the six-yard box, kicked back low across the goal and in past first-time starter Antonio Chavez Borrelli for the 1-0 lead.
In the second, the Boston College (2-1) began to threaten as the half wound down, including a prime chance by Beto Luna off a corner that found the side netting in the 87th minute. However the Wildcats pumped a second goal in at the 88th minute to seal the victory.
Boston College returns to action on Monday, Sept. 4, when the team hosts Xavier at the Newton Campus Soccer Field at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 30' | As the Eagles were defending a free kick from the right channel, the service deflected off a BC defender's shoulder and kicked back across the goal low and in past Antonio Chavez Borrelli for a 1-0 UNH lead.
- 87' | Boston College had a prime chance to equalize with minute remaining when the Eagles drew a corner. Mohammed Moro's service got to the top of the area, and after it kicked around a few BC players, Beto Luna was in alone at the near post. However, as the goalkeeper came out to cut down the angle, his shot found the side netting.
- 88' | UNH put the dagger in the game when Linus Fallberg took down Kristian Piippo's cross off a BC defender's leg and found space past Chavez Borrelli for the 2-0 lead.
