Eagles’ graduated captain tabbed to Academic Honor Roll
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Graduated senior captain Mary Kate O'Neill was one of 402 women's lacrosse student-athletes nationally to earn 2017 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll accolades. The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its year-end academic awards on Wednesday.
Additionally, head coach Acacia Walker Weinstein's Eagles were one of 308 programs to be named an 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.
O'Neill, who graduated in May with an applied psychology and human development degree from the Lynch School of Education, finished her career with 66 games played, 27 goals and 10 assists from the midfield. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have junior, senior or graduate-student status and have earned a cumulate academic GPA of 3.50 or higher.
To qualify as a National Honor Squad, programs had to have posted a 3.0 team GPA or higher for the entire academic year. Of the 308 programs to earn the honor, 97 Division I teams attained Academic Honor Squad status - including all eight Atlantic Coast Conference squads.
Boston College (17-7) finished the year ranked No. 2 in the country after falling to top-ranked and undefeated Maryland, 16-13, in the NCAA Championship game on May 28 at Gillette Stadium.
