Eagles’ former standout joins coaching staff full-time
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Dan Kelly was named the assistant coach for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams today, as announced by head coach Michael Stephens. Kelly served as the interim since January of 2017.
Â
"The impact Dan has already made on the program as an interim assistant coach has been substantial, and I am thrilled to officially welcome him to the coaching staff,'' said coach Stephens. "While Dan's accomplishments as a student-athlete demonstrate his work ethic, the quality of his character is what sets him apart as the ideal match to assist our program. I am confident that his contributions will help take our program to the next level.''
Â
Kelly, a 2016 graduate of Boston College, was the 2016 Senior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a four-time Athletic Director's Academic Achievement Award honoree. He was also an NCAA Academic All-America honorable mention.
Â
The team captain in 2016, Kelly currently holds seven program records and was the 2014 and 2016 team MVP. Kelly was a 2016 Olympic Trial qualifier in the 50 freestyle and placed 48th at the 2014 US National Swimming Championship in the event.
Â
A native of River Forest, Illinois, Kelly was also a member of the men's club water polo team. He helped the team place fourth in 2014 club water polo National Tournament and was a CWPA All-American first team selection.
Â
"I am incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside Michael Stephens during such an exciting time for the swimming and diving program. I am excited by the extraordinary potential of this program, and I look forward to bringing my energy and experience to advance new generations of BC swimmers and divers,'' said Kelly, on his new title at The Heights.
