Three Rowers Earn ACC All-Academic Honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Three members of the Boston College rowing team – senior Caitlin Yaccarino, junior Elizabeth McKernan and freshman Rebecca Karjian – earned a spot on the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday.

The 52 rowers on this year's team was selected from a record 265 nominations from the ACC's nine schools that sponsor rowing, an average of 29.4 rowers per team, also a league record.

To be nominated for the All-ACC Academic team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the spring semester and have maintained a 3.0 career GPA at their respective schools.

Fourteen members of the All-ACC Academic team were named to the CRCA All-Region team and 15 were first or second team All-ACC. Yaccarino was a second-team all-region and Second-Team All-ACC selection.

The honor was the second for Yaccarino, an elementary education and applied psychology major in the Lynch School of Education. The Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., native earned the Athletics Director Award for Academic Achievement all four years of her career at The Heights.

Karjian, a management and leadership major in the Carroll School of Management, earned the league honor for the first time in her career. Hailing from Seattle, she earned the Athletics Director Award for Academic Achievement after her first year at BC. Â

McKernan, a secondary education and history major in the Lynch School, collected the honor for the first time. A Blue Bell, Pa., native, she earned the Athletics Director Award for Academic Achievement the last two years.
