Syracuse legend comes to The Heights as one of Acacia Walker’s assistants
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – One of the most decorated players in women's lacrosse in recent years has joined Acacia Walker's staff as an assistant coach of the Boston College lacrosse program.
Â
Kayla Treanor, a member of the U.S. National Team and four-time first-team All-American, will move to The Heights and join Walker and assistant coach Jen Kent on the Eagles' sidelines this year. She comes to Chestnut Hill after spending one season as an assistant coach at Harvard following her legendary four-year career at Syracuse.
Â
"Adding Kayla to our coaching staff is transformational, not only for our current student-athletes but also our future players," Walker said. "It helps continue to etch our program's place among the top teams in the nation. Her experience and knowledge of our game has no equal in her generation. The minute she accepted our offer, our program improved. She will be welcomed with open arms into our BC lacrosse family."
Â
Treanor capped a remarkable career at Syracuse in 2016, earning four first-team All-America nods, three IWLCA Attacker of the Year honors and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award three times. She was a three-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year, a four-time first-team all-conference performer (one BIG EAST, three ACC) and also thrived in the postseason, earning conference all-tournament team honors all four seasons and three NCAA All-Tournament Team efforts.
Â
She finished her career ranked fourth on the NCAA D1 career scoring list (393 points) and sixth in career goals (260). Treanor also set the NCAA D1 single-season draw controls record with 217 in 2016.
Â
"I want to thank Boston College's administration and coaching staff for inviting me to join the lacrosse program at The Heights," Treanor said. "I have great admiration and respect for what this team has accomplished and I am very excited to get started working with the Eagles. This is a great opportunity to participate in a high level of lacrosse and learn from Acacia and Jen."
Â
Treanor has been a member of the U.S. National Team since 2013, and helped the 2011 U.S. Under-19 Team win the gold medal at the FIL U19 World Championships.
Â
Treanor comes to BC after the Eagles completed their best season in program history in 2017. Boston College advanced to its first-ever NCAA Championship game where it fell to No. 1 Maryland, 16-13, at Gillette Stadium. The team also set program records for wins (17), goals (373) and draw controls (369).
Â
BC finished the season ranked No. 2 in the IWLCA Poll, its highest final ranking in program history.Â
