Senior center one of three ACC players named to the watch list
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior center Jon Baker has been named to the 2017 Rimington Trophy Watch List. Baker was one of three ACC players named to the watch list.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football. Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.9 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $130 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-American center at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
Baker has started all 25 games he has played in over the previous two seasons at center for the Eagles. He anchors an offensive line that returns four starters in 2017 for a BC squad that finished last season with three consecutive victories, including the Eagles' first bowl win since 2007 after a 36-30 victory over Maryland in the Quick Lane Bowl.
Baker and the Eagles open the 2017 season on Friday, Sept. 1 at Northern Illinois (CBS Sports Network).
