
BC Makes ACC Quarterfinals for First Time in Team History

Eagles upset No. 29 NC State, 4-1
ROME, Ga. – The Boston College women's tennis team advanced to the ACC Championship quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The 12th-seeded Eagles defeated fifth-seeded NC State, 4-1, in the second round Thursday.
The Eagles (11-13, 6-10 ACC) won the doubles point and three singles matches. Senior Lexi Borr, junior Asiya Dair and sophomore Jackie Urbinati went 2-0 in the contest, winning their singles and doubles matches.
The Wolfpack took a 1-0 lead in doubles play with a 6-1 victory on the No. 1 court, but BC rallied back. Dair and freshman Elene Tsokilauri earned a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court to tie doubles play. Then Borr and Urbinati earned the doubles point for BC with a 6-4 win in second doubles.
BC took a 3-0 lead with two singles victories. First Dair defeated No. 75 Martina Frantova 6-3, 6-2. Then Urbinati won her fourth straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-4 win in fifth singles.
Borr, ranked 110th nationally, clinched BC's victory with a comeback, winning 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 in second singles.
The victory marks an upset for the Eagles, who NC State (18-10, 7-8 ACC) defeated, 6-1, on March 19. BC will next face fourth-seeded and 32nd-ranked Miami on Friday at 1 p.m. in Rome, Ga.
