BC HIGHLIGHTS
- The Boston College women's track and field team opened its 2017 outdoor season this weekend at a rainy College of William and Mary, participating in the Colonial Relays.
- Junior Isabelle Kennedy headlined the weekend of performances for the Eagles. On Thursday evening, the Eagles' star distance athlete raced in the 10K, posting the third-best mark in BC history with her time of 34:04.87. With her second place finish, Kennedy also qualified for the ECAC Championships and will qualify her for the first round of the NCAA Championships.
- Also on the opening evening of competition, senior Catherine Maloy earned qualification to the ECAC Championships in the 3K. Maloy's time of 9:59.74 landed her in seventh place on the evening.
- Boston College received some top performances from the field events throughout the weekend. Senior Fallyn Boich threw the javelin 38.82m (127'4"), good for seventh place overall in the championship event. In the university long jump, freshman Julia Lyons came out the victor after leaping 5.56m (18'3"), a new collegiate personal best mark.
- Junior Julia Barron tallied some points for the Eagles with her 400m hurdle performance. Barron took sixth overall in the event, crossing the line in 1:02.86, also qualifying for the ECAC Championships in the process. Freshman Emma Taylor debuted in the event, finishing tenth overall with a time of 1:03.78.
- Lyons took to the track in the 200m, posting yet another personal best mark. With a time of 25.45, Lyons' heat-winning and eighth-place finish among collegiate competitors grabbed a point in the team scoring for the Eagles.
- Junior Molly McCabe returned to her signature event, the 800m, to take seventh place overall for Boston College after crossing the line in 2:09.09. McCabe's performance was good for ECAC Championship qualification as well.
- The Eagles kicked off the relay events on Saturday with the 4x800m relay. The tandem of junior Julia Gregory, freshman Naomi Cartier, junior Shannon Ahern and sophomore Gianna Bender landed fifth place overall, with a time of 9:23.53.
- The sprint medley team of junior Johanna Celli (200m), senior Robin Gross (200m), McCabe (400m) and senior Claudia DiSomma (800m) broke the Boston College school record with its first-place performance. Combining for a time of 3:59.13, the Eagles tacked on another 10 points to their team score.
- The Eagles' 4x200m relay team of Taylor, Celli, Gross and McCabe closed out the running events on the weekend for Boston College, posting a time of 1:42.79, taking home first place in its heat and 10th place overall.
- With all events completed, Boston College ended the weekend having scored 33 points, good for 9th overall.
The Eagles will be back in action at the Sam Howell Invitation next weekend, hosted by Princeton in Princeton, N.J.
