Possokhova, Wilcox, Tsokilauri lead Eagles in victory
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshmen contributed heavily to the Boston College women's tennis team's 6-1 win against No. 37 Miami on Friday at home.
The Eagles (8-7, 3-4 ACC) won five singles matches and the doubles point for their first win against Miami in program history. Freshmen Dasha Possokhova, Kylie Wilcox and Elene Tsokilauri each went 2-0 in the ACC victory.
"I'm just really happy for this team. They've worked so hard," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "They've been so close in so many matches. They earned this through their hard work. I'm also kind of nostalgic at the same time because it's our first win against Miami. I think back to so many great players from our team, and this win is for them too."
Wilcox clinched BC's victory in a tight fourth-singles match. She earned the point in a tight tiebreaker for a 6-3, 7-6 win that gave the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Tsokilauri also won her match in straight sets, winning sixth singles 6-2, 6-1 to give BC a 5-1 lead.
Then senior Emily Safron finalized the match, earning a 6-4, 7-6 victory in fifth singles and closing BC's first win against Miami (4-8, 3-4) in team history.
The Eagles next host Louisville on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
