The Eagles finished their fourth practice of the spring Tuesday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team completed its fourth practice of the spring, and the second in full pads, Tuesday morning at Alumni Stadium inside the bubble.
"It was nice," Boston College head coach Steve Addazio said about Tuesday's practice. "Day four, second day of pads. We usually see more on these days because you are used to the pads and used to the resistance and I thought the team went really hard today. There was a lot of great effort out there today and I really felt like we got some things done. This group comes in every day looking to get better and work hard, they really do and we just have to keep working on playing consistently and making more plays that are available."
The Eagles finished their first scrimmage of the spring Saturday. Addazio was pleased with how the team responded Tuesday after going in full pads for the first time Saturday.
"I felt like Saturday we just had fun," Addazio continued. "Guys take a couple steps and then fire off, they fit up, but that's not real life. So, this week, we put the pads on and try to accelerate, fire off and move and it's different. Now guys are getting accustomed to playing at the rate of speed you have to play in in the pads and today was a much better day and it will be that way as we go."
The only new addition to the coaching staff this spring is a familiar face in former BC standout linebacker Ricky Brown. The former NFL linebacker is coaching the special teams for BC and the SAM linebackers.
"It's awesome," Brown said about being back at his alma mater. "BC is and always will be about hard working kids and these kids bring their energy every day. It's my job as a coach to make sure that their energy is applied in meaningful drills and a meaningful practice, but I'll tell you what, it's just awesome. These kids remind me of myself when I was a player at BC, enjoying practice, offense and defense chirping, which is just competitive banter and it makes it fun."
Brown has enjoyed the transition to being a full-time assistant coach after spending last season as BC's Director of Football Initiatives.
"The SAM linebackers have been great," Brown added. "Seeing how Coach Reid handled the linebackers last year and seeing how he commanded the room and getting a chance to be in that room and sit on those meetings and just listen has helped me run my first room."
Practice Notes: ESPN's Joe Tessitore was in attendance at practice Tuesday … one of the plays of the day was a leaping grab in the end zone by redshirt freshman wide receiver Kobay White. The Harrisburg, Pa., native jumped over a defender on a perfect pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Brown. White has also changed numbers and is now wearing No. 9 … Seniors Harold Landry and Ty Schwab continue to be two players to watch on defense. Both players have been easy to spot through four practices for the Eagle defense … with senior Jon Baker out this spring, redshirt freshman Shane Leonard has received the lion's share of the work at center.
