BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore RHP Jacob Stevens went six innings in his fifth start of the season. He allowed four hits, two runs – both earned – two walks and he struck out four.
- Senior Michael Strem went 1-for-4 and he has reached base in the last 14 games, a team season high. He also has a hit in the last six games.
- Junior Mitch Bigras had two of the Eagles' five hits, leading the way with a 2-for-3 day. Strem, sophomore Jake Alu and freshman Brian Dempsey had the other BC hits.
KEY PLAYS
- In a pitchers' duel, Louisville scored two in the fifth to strike first. It would be all the Cardinals would need, but they added three in the seventh and one in the eighth to seal the victory.
- Louisville starter LHP Brendan McKay did not give up a run in his seven-inning start while striking out 12. He walked one and allowed five hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals broke the scoreless tie in the fifth with two outs to take a 2-0 lead. Josh Stowers led off with double before Stevens forced a pop up and shallow fly ball. Logan Taylor hit one up the middle and senior shortstop Johnny Adams made the diving stop behind the second-base bag. He threw home to try to get Stowers, but it was just late, allowing the first run of the game to score. Colby Fitch followed with a double to center to plate Taylor before Stevens got a fly out to end the inning.
- Louisville added three more in the seventh off junior RHP Bobby Skogsbergh. After a ground out to start the inning, the Cards loaded the bases on a single and two hit batters. Sophomore LHP Zach Stromberg came on in relief and gave up a ground-rule double to score two. Devin Hairston brought in a run with a groundout to first. Stromberg intentionally walked McKay and forced a fly ball to end the inning.
- The Cardinals made it a 6-0 game in the eighth. Stromberg hit the lead-off hitter, Colin Lyman, whole stole second and moved to third on a fly ball. With two down, Tyler Fitzgerald hit a grounder to short, which Adams mishandled, allowing Lyman to score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Aaron Soucy recorded his second caught stealing in the second inning.
- Louisville moves to 5-2 in the all-time series and McKay is 2-1 against the Eagles.
- After not getting shut out in the first 13 games, the Eagles have not been able to score a run in the last two straight.
