Former BC standout is the first Eagle to earn NFL MVP honors
Former Boston College standout quarterback Matt Ryan was named the NFL Most Valuable Player Saturday evening at the NFL Honors Awards Show. Ryan also earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year accolades.

Ryan is the first Boston College player to be named NFL MVP and the first Eagle to be named NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Ryan threw for 4,944 yards with 38 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 2016. He led the NFL with a 117.1 passer rating as the Falcons scored a NFL-best 540 points.

In the playoffs, Ryan has completed 53-of-75 passes for 730 yards with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. According to NFL Research, Ryan is the seventh QB to throw for seven-plus TDs and zero interceptions in a postseason. The other six all won Super Bowls. Â

Ryan had his jersey retired at Boston College last November. During his standout senior season in 2007, Ryan led the team to an 8-0 start and No. 2 national ranking en route to an 11-3 record (best since 1940), the ACC Atlantic Division championship and the school's first appearance in the ACC Championship game. He was the winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (given to the nation's top senior quarterback), the Manning Award (given to the nation's top quarterback), was ACC Player of the Year and finished seventh in Heisman Trophy balloting. He set the BC school record for single-season passing yards and finished the season 388-of-654 passing for 4,507 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2007.

Ryan capped an illustrious Boston College career by being selected third overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL Draft.
