CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A pair of senior standouts from the 2016 Boston College football team earned invitations to the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday. Defensive back John Johnson and linebacker Matt Milano are headed to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine.
This year's scouting combine will be held February 28 – March 6.
Over 300 of the top college football players in the nation are invited to the NFL Combine. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.
NFL Network has live television coverage of the combine. Former Boston College standout Mike Mayock will provide analysis on NFL Network during the entire combine.
Johnson was second on the team with 77 tackles in 2016. The safety finished with a team-leading three interceptions on the year and totaled nine pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Milano was fourth on the squad with 58 tackles and he contributed 11 TFLs, 6.5 sacks and returned one interception for a touchdown in the 30-0 shutout win over UConn.
Both players were key cogs as the Eagles were ranked as one of the nation's top defenses the entire season. BC allowed just 108.5 rushing yards per game, seventh-best nationally and first in the conference.
BC was also among the top-20 defenses nationally in third-down conversion percentage defense (ninth, 31.5%), fourth-down conversion percentage defense (eighth), first-down defense (seventh, 201), fumbles recovered (second, 15), sacks (second, 3.62 per game) and tackles-for-loss (sixth, 8.2 per game).
