Pineau Leads Eagles Past Crusaders, 70-61

Eagles improve to 3-5 on the season.
Worcester, Mass. – The Boston College women's basketball team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 70-61, on Wednesday night at the Hart Center behind sophomore Georgia Pineau's 19 point-12 rebound effort.

The Eagles are now 4-5 on the season, while the Crusaders fell to 3-5.

Boston College and the Crusaders were tied 25-25 at the end of the half. The Eagles took the lead for good at the start of the third quarter when they went on a 16-8 run. Pineau had six points in the run while Milan Bolden Morris pitched in with five. BC outscored Holy Cross 23-17 in the period and shot 66.7 percent from the floor to pull ahead to a 48-42 lead.

BC shot 48.9 percent from the floor while Holy Cross shot 33.3 percent. The Eagles out-rebounded the Crusaders 43-31 in the victory.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- In the final 2:27 to play in the game, sophomore Taylor Ortlepp went 8-for-8 from the foul line. She finished with 14 points, a season-high seven assists and five rebounds.
- Rookie Milan Bolden-Morris chipped in with 15 points and was 3-for-4 from the three-point line.
- Freshman Sydney Lowery contributed 10 points, while sophomore Emma Guy had eight points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holy Cross led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. BC was led by freshman Milan Bolden Morris' six points, including three rebounds.
- Both the Eagles and Crusaders opened the second quarter scoreless in the first four minutes. Pineau hit the first shot of the quarter with off a jumper with 6:45 left to pull the Eagles within three. Madalyn Smith hit a three-pointer with a minute left in the half to tie the score at 25-25 heading into the locker room.              Â
- BC opened the second half on a 16-8 run to pull ahead to a 41-33 lead. They shot a combined 7-for-9 from the floor and had no turnovers in the run. The Eagles finished the quarter shooting 66.7 shooting percent and outshot the Crusaders 23-17 to enter the fourth with a 48-42 lead.
- Holy Cross opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run to pull within one point of the Eagles. A three-pointer by Ortlepp with 4:30 left to play followed by a pair of free throws by Lowery gave the Eagles a double-digit lead, 59-48. The Eagles would maintain that lead for the remainder of the game behind Ortlepp's sharp shooting from the charity stripe.
- BC shot 48.9 percent from the field for the second time this season.
- The Eagles won the battle of the board 43-31.
- BC matched its season-high with 17 assists.
- The 19-point, 12 rebound effort by Georgia Pineau was her second double-double of the season. She also had six assists and a block.
- Senior Rachel Gartner played a strong 21 minutes of the bench at back-up point guard. She notched four rebounds and had a steal.
- Boston College will return home to host former Big East rival Seton Hall on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
