Eagles Begin Season at Boston University

Ten Eagles qualified for the New England Championships
BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's track and field team began its indoor season on Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center for the BU season opener. Ten Eagles qualified for the New England Championships in their individual events.

Top finishes by the women include a second place finish in the mile by senior Julia Gregory and a second place finish in the 600 by classmate Molly McCabe. In the field, sophomore Julia Lyons took fourth place in the long jump. Four women qualified for the New England Championships in the 3000 meter run. On the day, 18 Eagles had top 10 finishes.

Select members of the team look forward to competing at the URI Pentathlon on Friday, Dec. 8 while the whole team will compete together again at the Bean Town Challenge at Harvard on Sunday, Jan. 14.

BC Highlights:
- In the 400 meter dash, senior Johanna Celli finished in fifth place overall with a time of 57.88, besting her previous personal record of 58.36. Senior Julia Barron, sophomore Emma Taylor and junior Sierra Tonnesen all finished in the top 10. Celli and Barron qualified for New England's.
- Barron finished the 400 meter dash in 58.44 for a seventh place finish. She also ran the second leg of the 4x400 meter relay in 57.4, helping to lead the relay team to a fourth place finish.
- Gregory earned a second place finish in the mile with a time of 5:06.77. She crossed the line just a second behind the first place finisher.
- McCabe ran an impressive 600 and anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay. She took second place in the 600 at 1:33.56 and she ran a 56.0 second anchor leg in the 4x400 meter relay. McCabe's time in the 600 qualifies her for the New England Championships.
- Senior Shannon Ahern ran a time of 2:15.11 in the 800 to finish in fifth place overall. She was followed close behind by junior Gianna Bender who finished in sixth place and freshman Emily Criscuolo who took seventh. Ahern and Bender both qualified for New England's.
- Junior Paige Duca finished the 3000 meter run in seventh place with a time of 9:32.14. Classmate Alison Burns also crossed the line in the top 10 with a ninth place finish at 10:08.81. Both juniors qualified for New England's.
- Freshman Miranda Thompson and classmate Collen Sliney finished in 10:12.06 and 10:14.23, respectively, to qualify for the New England Championships.
- In the field events, sophomore Julia Lyons took fourth place in the long jump with a jump of 5.64 meters, surpassing her previous personal best of 5.60 meters and also qualifying for New England's.
- Junior Elizabeth Knoll took fifth place in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters.
